Ward accreditation is a key component of our ongoing efforts to enhance and standardise the quality of care provided to patients in our hospitals.
Internal assessments are conducted by corporate nurses and subject matter experts. They deliver reports that highlight the ward's strengths. They also identify areas for improvement necessary to achieve the next level of accreditation.
The assessments include various aspects including patient experience, safety, staff morale, operational efficiency, and performance in equality, diversity, and inclusion. Wards receive ratings of bronze, silver, or gold based on their adherence to these standards. Teams work hard to meet rigorous criteria.

Sunrise A gets silver ward accreditation!
Congratulations to Sunrise A ward at Queen’s Hospital for attaining silver in our ward accreditation programme.
Ward accreditation is part of our ongoing efforts to improve and standardise the quality of care given to patients at our hospitals and sees wards assessed by corporate nurses and subject matter experts.
They are then given a report that highlights areas where they are excelling and also includes improvements needed to progress to the next level. This includes assessing areas including patient experience, safety, staff experience, efficiency, and equality, diversity and inclusion.
Sunrise A was previously a bronze ward, but a score of 100 per cent on infection prevention and control contributed to its move up to silver.
Matron Lisa Pape-Orton said: “Getting silver shows that we’re giving a high standard of care, and our patients can trust that they’ll be well looked after when they come onto Sunrise A.
“I’m really proud of our staff for all the effort they put in when we were assessed, they really deserve the silver award.”
Ward Sister Hina Yousaf said: “The whole team worked so hard to improve from bronze to silver and I’m really pleased we achieved it.
“We get such positive feedback from our patients and the accreditation reflects the high standards we have when it comes to caring for them.”
We currently have one gold, 15 silver and 23 bronze wards.
Well done to Bluebell B!
