Ward accreditation scheme

Ward accreditation is a key component of our ongoing efforts to enhance and standardise the quality of care provided to patients in our hospitals.

Internal assessments are conducted by corporate nurses and subject matter experts. They deliver reports that highlight the ward's strengths. They also identify areas for improvement necessary to achieve the next level of accreditation.

The assessments include various aspects including patient experience, safety, staff morale, operational efficiency, and performance in equality, diversity, and inclusion. Wards receive ratings of bronze, silver, or gold based on their adherence to these standards. Teams work hard to meet rigorous criteria.

Well done to our postnatal ward at Queen’s Hospital for achieving silver in our ward accreditation programme.

Ward accreditation is part of our ongoing efforts to improve and standardise the quality of care given to patients at our hospitals. Wards are assessed by corporate nurses and subject matter experts.

They provide a report that tells the ward what they're doing well and what needs to be better to reach the next level.

This covers patient experience, safety, how staff are feeling, how efficiently the ward runs, and how well they're doing on equality, diversity and inclusion.

Rachel Nyangezi, a Midwife on the postnatal ward, said:

We are so proud to have this award because before we were only bronze. We aim to go higher and higher because we have very good communication skills on this ward. We worked hard on the feedback we got before from the bronze.

Phinah Agbakoba, the inpatient Deputy Matron, said:

The whole senior team are really proud of our colleagues on the ward. They work so hard and sometimes they don’t even realise how much they do. Everyone is just trying to make the experience for patients as best as they can be.

Well done to Bluebell B!
