We are constantly striving to improve the quality of the care we provide at our Trust and this ambition lies at the heart of our purpose that we launched in September 2024:
“We want our hospitals to deliver care that staff are proud of and our patients are happy with”.
One of the ways we are achieving this is through our ward accreditation programme, which is a way to improve and standardise the quality of care we give to our patients.
The programme sets out clear standards and measurements to help staff understand where they are already delivering excellent patient care and how they need to improve.
Wards enrolled on the scheme work hard to achieve bronze, silver or gold. Senior nurses and other experts carry out the ward assessments.
The assessments highlight the strengths of each ward and they also identify areas for improvement necessary to achieve the next level. The assessments look at patient experience, safety, staff morale, operational efficiency, and performance in equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Congratulations Sky A and MRU!
We’re delighted two more of our wards have attained silver and bronze accreditation as part of our ongoing efforts to improve and standardise the quality of care given across our hospitals.
These latest results take the number of silver wards to 11 and bronze wards to 19, meaning 30 wards are now accredited.
Our ward accreditation programme sees units assessed on patient experience, patient safety, staff experience, and efficiency. Wards are assessed by corporate nurses and subject matter experts and are then given a report which highlights areas where they are excelling and also includes improvements needed to progress to the next level.
This week, Chief Nurse Kathryn Halford, Chief Executive Matthew Trainer, and our new site leadership team at Queen’s Hospital visited Sky A ward and the Medical Receiving Unit (MRU) to reveal their results.
Sky A was awarded silver, and it was noted that they were especially strong in working with our Pharmacy team to ensure inpatients have the medication they need.
Jamie Camp, Senior Sister on Sky A, said: “Having ward accreditation means we embed really good practice into our ward and for all of our staff, which means our patients can receive good quality care at all times.”
Deputy Matron Charmaine Marshall added: “I’m incredibly proud of everybody and all of the hard work that we've put in as a team on the ward. This isn't just led by one person, it is by everyone working together and it feels absolutely amazing.”

MRU achieved bronze accreditation, with particular praise for pain management and getting 99 per cent positive feedback from patients during the assessment.
Ward Manager Bridget Martinez said: “This is the third time that we've been assessed and for us to get to where we are at, there’s been so much hard work, but it just goes to show that we have really embedded the practice.”

Well done to everyone on Sky A and MRU!
