We’re improving care for women, while also helping our doctors progress in their careers, thanks to the opening of a Women’s Health Academy and Training Centre.

Based at Queen’s Hospital, the centre aims to enhance the training on offer for our doctors, helping them on their way to becoming a consultant. By providing higher quality guidance and mentoring for our teams, we’re also improving the care we give to our patients.

Roopa Nair, our Clinical Director for Women’s Health, said: “Our consultants have a wealth of expertise and experience and by sharing that with our junior doctors, we can improve and preserve the services we have on offer for women.”

Yaa Achampong, chief registrar and senior obstetrics and gynaecology trainee, who worked closely with Roopa to establish the centre, added: “I hope that this will provide a great opportunity for my fellow junior doctors to develop skills away from the pressure of the operating theatre.”

Our Women’s Health department is the third largest in the country, delivering over 7,000 babies each year, and boasting a large gynaecology department and sub specialisms including nationally accredited centres for urogynaecology and endometriosis.
