We’ve appointed a new Chief Nursing Officer
We are pleased to have appointed Nic Kane as our Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Nic will join Andrew Deaner, our Chief Medical Officer, as a new voting member of our Board. She is replacing Kathryn Halford who is retiring as CNO after a distinguished career that saw her awarded an OBE.
Nic has been Chief Nurse at Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust for the past three years and has extensive clinical, leadership and operational experience. She has worked in a variety of roles across the health service, including at Barts Health and the Royal Marsden.
Nic said:
I am delighted to be joining the Trust and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work alongside everyone to deliver the very best care for patients and support for staff.
I am excited to build on the great work that is already underway – strengthening patient safety, enhancing the quality of care and championing the voices of both patients and staff at every level.
The role of Chief Nurse is one that I hold with a real sense of duty and responsibility. I look forward to supporting teams, developing the nursing, midwifery and Allied Health Professional workforce and ensuring we have a culture where everyone feels valued, heard and empowered to deliver the best care possible.
Commenting on her appointment Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive said:
I am delighted to have an established Chief Nurse like Nic join our Trust. She will bring a fresh perspective to everything we are doing to improve quality and safety. Her experience of working in both the acute and the community sector will prove invaluable.
I’d also like to thank Kathryn Halford and wish her well. Kathryn has been the backbone of our senior leadership team during some very difficult times over the years and she has made a significant contribution to our Trust and to the NHS.
