Welcome to Marta Phillips, one of our new non-executive directors
We’re delighted Marta Phillips is starting work this month as one of our non-executive directors (NED) on our Board where she will oversee the running of our hospitals. Welcoming her appointment, Jacqui Smith our Chair said: “I’m really pleased to have recruited someone with Marta’s background to our Trust. Her extensive experience of working at board level in the public and higher education sectors will prove invaluable. Her insights will help us as we work more closely with Barts Health to improve the care we provide residents in north east London”.
Marta’s board appointments include the Restoration and Renewal Sponsor Body at The Palace of Westminster where she chairs their audit committee; she is Deputy Chair of Heriot-Watt University’s Court; and she is a member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council. She is also the independent chair of the London Fire Brigade’s audit committee and board member and audit committee chair of the Public Sector Audit Appointments Limited.
Marta was a senior civil servant and has many years of experience in the financial sector including as Chief Executive of the Pensions Advisory Service. She was made an Officer of the British Empire in 2006 for services to social housing.
Marta said: “I am really delighted to be appointed to our Trust as the provision of healthcare is so important for our community and has become even more important as we recover from the pandemic. I am looking forward to working with new colleagues as we continue to improve the services we offer our patients”.
