Vice Chairs appointed to the boards of Barts Health and BHRUT

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) and the Barts Health group are pleased to announce the appointment of two Vice Chairs for their respective boards. Adam Sharples will take on the role at Barts Health and Mehboob Khan will become Vice Chair at BHRUT. 

Mehboob Khan has been announced as BHRUT Vice Chair 

Jacqui Smith, Chair in common of the two trusts, said: “I’m delighted we’ve recruited Mehboob and Adam to these important positions. They are both high calibre individuals with wide experience who will support me. They will help to strengthen the boards at each trust and deepen the collaborative work of the two organisations to the benefit of the residents of north east London”.

Adam Sharples has been announced as Barts Health Vice Chair

Adam Sharples will join Barts Health from University College London Hospitals where he is already a non-executive director (NED). He was a senior civil servant for many years and worked at the Treasury and the Department for Work and Pensions. Adam said: “I am thrilled to be joining the board of the Barts Health group. I am passionate about the NHS, and having studied at Queen Mary University of London and lived nearby for over 30 years, I’m very pleased to have this chance to play a part in helping the NHS deliver the best possible services in north east London.”

Mehboob Khan is already a NED at BHRUT. He is also Assistant Director of Policy and Change at the London Borough of Redbridge. Before taking on this role, he was political adviser to London Councils. Mehboob said: “I’m delighted to be appointed Vice Chair at my local Trust and I am very proud of how we responded during the pandemic. I look forward to working with colleagues, staff and partner organisations to improve our much-valued health services.”

Marta Phillips has been announced as a Non Executive Director at BHRUT

In other moves to further improve the two trusts, Lesley Seary, the acting Chief Executive of the London Borough of Redbridge, who is on the board of BHRUT will also serve on the board of Barts Health. And Marta Phillips has been appointed as a non-executive director at BHRUT. Marta is on the boards of several organisations including the Nursing and Midwifery Council. She was a senior civil servant and has many years of experience in the financial sector.
