Senior role for doctor born in one of our hospitals
We are pleased to have appointed Professor Andrew Deaner as our new Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
Andrew was born at the old Ilford Maternity Hospital that became part of King George Hospital (KGH) and he is the third member of our Executive to have grown up in the boroughs we serve.
Andrew is a cardiologist who has spent his whole career as a consultant with us. He also holds clinics at Barts Health and Homerton Healthcare for pregnant women with heart disease.
Before being appointed CMO, he was Hospital and Medical Director at KGH. Andrew brings a wide breadth of experience in both clinical management and senior medical education roles.
He is involved in promoting CPR training to the public and is known for his role in the resuscitation and subsequent treatment of Fabrice Muamba, the footballer whose heart stopped for 78 minutes during a match.
Andrew said:
I’m incredibly proud to be appointed Chief Medical Officer and it’s a privilege to take on the position of the most senior doctor at our Trust. I will do my best to make sure we provide the highest quality care to all our patients, always delivered with compassion and kindness.
Commenting on Andrew’s appointment, Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, said:
I am delighted to have one of our most experienced doctors promoted to the role of Chief Medical Officer. We are constantly looking to ‘grow our own’ talent and it’s great to have someone of Andrew’s calibre join my senior leadership team.
