Patients thankful to return home after battling Covid-19
Whilst the battle against Covid-19 continues, it is very uplifting to see our patients discharged home, back to their loved ones.
The joy at having recovered from Covid-19 is always clear to see, and was certainly the case on Tuesday 2 February, when Teka Singh, 66, and Frederick Stratford, 76, were both discharged, having recovered from the virus.
Teka Singh “could not wait to get home” to his family, after spending 10 days at Queen’s Hospital. When talking about his battle against Covid-19, Teka said: “I feel a lot better now but I do not think I would have survived if I had not come to the hospital.
“Other members of my family were recovering from Covid-19 but I felt like I was getting worse. I was conscious about coming to the hospital because I know how busy the staff are, but once I was struggling to breath, I knew I had to.”
Teka, who lives in Gidea Park, was full of praise for the “amazing” staff that cared for him during his stay. He explained: “They have been amazing. I could not fault them and I feel like they are often underappreciated. Working on the frontline for the NHS is a very hard job, especially right now, but the staff always go beyond the call of duty.”
Another patient, Frederick Stratford, was delighted to return home to his wife who had been recovering from Covid-19 herself at home, while Frederick had been in hospital.
After making a full recovery, Frederick could not hide what he was most looking forward to when he returned home. He said: “I’ve been married for 60 years and I cannot wait to get home and cuddle my wife. She means everything to me and it has been really hard not seeing her.”
Along with Teka, Frederick was also full of praise for our staff who treated him. He said: “The nurses have been unbelievable and they are a credit to their profession.”
