Our stroke matron Millie has been appointed to an international committee
Millie Krasinka-Chavez, a matron in our Stroke team, has been appointed to the Health Economics Steering Committee of the European Stroke Organisation (ESO) in Geneva.
The committee develops exemplar stroke services across Europe, and Millie will work with the President of the European Union, the President of the ESO, and other professionals to improve the care given to patients across the continent.
Millie, who will combine the role with her continued work at our Trust, said: “I have always been passionate about the stroke care and working with such a prestigious organisation is a dream come true.
“The European Stroke Organisation is a multi-award winning centre of excellence in stroke care. It is a huge privilege for me to work with the most important professionals from all over the world in developing public policies and improve the care of stroke patients and the quality of life of stroke survivors.
“The ESO is also known for its education and accreditation projects, and I am hopeful that I will be able to get the access to those for our nursing and medical workforce.”
Millie added that she will focus her work on the committee on health economics, to ensure developing nations are supported in putting together robust policies.
Ian Norris, our Lead Nurse for Stroke Services, presented Millie with a bouquet of flowers to congratulate her on her appointment.
Meanwhile, our Chair Mike Bell has praised our Stroke team for its success maintaining its A grade rating. Mike visited the team to learn about the initiatives that were developed and implemented in the service to improve the rating from a D grade an A grade and then maintain that despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mike said: “It was a great pleasure to visit the Stroke team and learn about the impressive transformation of the service.
“The passion of the team and their commitment to multi-disciplinary working was clear to see and I feel immense pride that we are among the top-rated stroke units in the country.”
