Our paediatrician's book will be used to inform child protection cases worldwide

David Robinson

David Robinson, a long-serving consultant paediatrician at our Trust, has published a book, Pediatric Forensic Evidence, bringing together his vast experience advising the courts on child protection cases.

It’ll be used as a guide for fellow doctors, lawyers, social workers and other professionals involved in child protection cases.

David, who has worked at our Trust for over 30 years, said: “I was absolutely thrilled to have this book published. I’m grateful for the support I was given by my colleagues to complete it, and because of this, I really feel it comes from our Trust.

“I hope it will be useful to professionals in child protection and perhaps it will be read by a judge in the US, a Lawyer in Bangkok or a social worker in London, all of who may wonder, where are Queen’s and King George hospitals? Putting our Trust on the map.”

David had the idea for the book after many years of clinical experience working with children, as well as analysing more than 400 court cases in his role as a medico-legal, providing independent expert advice during trials.

He was delighted that His Honour Judge John Dowse, who David worked with on his first court case in 1996, agreed to write the preface, calling the book an invaluable instrument in the child protection toolbox, and even stating how he wished it had been available to him when he first started out.

For David, working on child protection cases became not only an interesting discipline as part of his career, but a way to enhance his own knowledge, which he could share with his colleagues, and use to improve patient care at our hospitals.

Our Medical Director, Nadeem Moghal, said: “Our ambition to be a Trust renowned for its academic learning culture is made real by David and his recently published book.

“David works in one the most challenging fields, rarely thanked for the work done to protect children. Through his experience and expertise and by gathering and sharing knowledge through his book, he has strengthened his colleagues, our Trust and all who work in child protection, to be better able to serve vulnerable children.

“We are proud to have David, an international ambassador in his field, as part of our Trust.”

While David, who has three sons, had told his family he was writing the book, they found out it was published when son Robert spotted it for sale on Amazon.

David added: “The boys have seen it and were really pleased. I’m very proud of all they’ve achieved but you never think of it the other way round. It’s wonderful that they’re proud of it.”
