Our nurse Sam King brings fictional character to life for World Book Day!

As schoolchildren across the globe celebrate World Book Day today (Thursday 5 March), one of our nurses has brought a fictional character to life for his own son.
Sam King, a research nurse in our Emergency Department loves reading his favourite book, My Daddy is a Nurse, with two year-old son Harry.
While Sam didn’t plan on becoming a nurse, he was always surrounded by nursing and the NHS as both his parents are nurses – as is his wife Laura, who also works at our Trust!
While there are less male nurses on our wards than female, for Sam, it’s never been anything less than the norm.
He said: “It’s never been odd for me, it’s just my job. My dad was a nurse so I grew up with it. Hopefully that will be the same for Harry too.
“He’s got his toy medical kit and scrub top with ‘future nurse’ on it, all thanks to my wife! What he decides to do is up to him though. He’s only two, but he does understand a little bit about what mummy and daddy do.”
Laura got a copy of the My Daddy is a Nurse book as soon as it came out so Sam and Harry could enjoy reading it together.
Sam added: “He loves reading so we read lots of books together.”
You can read more about Sam’s career in his In Conversation With interview.
