The MRI basic course offered by The North East London Imaging Academy, based at King George Hospital, has been accredited by the Society and College of Radiographers.

This endorsement is a significant milestone for our academy, recognising the high standard of education, training and professional development being offered to the radiology workforce across north east London.

The academy, a collaboration between our Trust, Barts Health and Homerton, launched in 2022 with the first student radiographers graduating in September 2023.

It was established to train and upskill radiographers, providing cutting-edge training which aligns with the latest advances in medical imaging technology.

Amit Marks, Imaging Academy Project Manager, said: “This is great for our academy and helps us continue to build on what we can offer radiographers across the whole of north east London.

“We’re rolling out lots of new courses, as well as refining existing training based on feedback and looking at how we’ll continue to develop the academy for the future.”

With the basic MRI course accredited, Lawrence Reyes, our MRI Practice Educator Lead, is working to achieve accreditation for an intermediate course, involving more advanced imaging.

The Society and College of Radiographers is the professional body for radiographers in the UK and only endorses training programmes which meet rigorous standards. Our accreditation assures students and local stakeholders of the quality of training on offer, while helping us produce highly skilled radiographers equipped to meet rising demand.

With the opening of our Barking Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) and the St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub, due later this year, we’re carrying out more diagnostic scans than ever, therefore we need qualified teams to ensure our patients get their scans with minimal waits.
