Meet our new Director for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
We’re delighted to announce that Remi Odejinmi, a consultant anaesthetist at our Trust, is to become our first Director for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. She has been appointed following a fair and robust recruitment process that attracted a wide range of candidates.
Remi has worked with us for 20 years, during which time she has held various leadership roles including Divisional Director for Anaesthetics. Most recently, she led on our clinical strategy.
Remi will take up her new role in June, leading our efforts to ensure we think about equality and equity in all we do for patients and staff.
She will join our Board and report to our Deputy Chief Executive, Ben Morrin. She will continue working as a consultant anaesthetist for one day a week.
Remi said: “I am looking forward to working with our corporate and clinical teams on improvements that promote a culture that is fair, equitable and inclusive, where every voice counts. Capitalising on our diversity, we must strive to support and develop our talent, enable staff to be themselves and deliver care to the best of their ability. This will go a long way to improving both staff and patient experience and outcomes.”
Welcoming her appointment Mike Bell, our Chair, told this month’s Board meeting that Remi would give “real prominence” to the issues of equality, diversity and inclusion. Mike went on to say: “This role will make a real difference to our staff and to the population we serve.”
Remi has previously represented our Trust on a national platform. She recently appeared on BBC Radio 4, discussing vaccine hesitancy. Listen to her interview here.
