Resident doctor strike

From Wednesday 17 to Monday 22 December, resident doctors (formerly known as junior doctors) will be taking strike action. During this time, our services will be under increased pressure.

Getting the right care

Please help us make sure emergency care is available for those who need it most:

  • Only attend A&E in life-threatening emergencies.
  • For non-urgent issues, please contact your GP, your local pharmacy, or NHS 111 (online or by phone).

Appointments and planned care

  • If your appointment is affected, we will contact you directly.
  • If you do not hear from us, please attend your appointment as planned.

Magda joins national campaign with an important message

Screengrab of Dr Magda Smith in NHS video

Our Chief Medical Officer, Magda Smith, has taken part in an important national campaign to encourage young people to have the vaccine.

A video featuring those in their early 20s and 30s, who have been hospitalised with Covid-19, or experienced Long-Covid, serves as a stark reminder that no one is invincible when it comes to Covid and young people must have both jabs to protect themselves.

In an appeal for more younger people to have their jab, Magda said: “What we are seeing, is that if you have not had your vaccine, you are more likely to end up in hospital. By having both jabs, you reduce your chances of being hospitalised by over 92 per cent.”

The video, which you can watch below, also features Emeka Okorocha, an A&E doctor who has worked at our hospitals.
