Kelly Rose, our first midwife to qualify through an apprenticeship

Continuing our celebrations for National Apprenticeship Week, we're sharing the story of Kelly Rose , who in December, became the first midwife at our Trust to qualify through an apprenticeship.

For Kelly, who has a mortgage and children, doing an apprenticeship was the best way to train, earn and follow her dreams.

It is the second apprenticeship that she has completed whilst working at our Trust after completing her first programme to become a maternity support worker after joining in December 2017.

She was one of  50 graduates from our Trust to celebrate their achievements at the House of Commons  earlier this week to mark National Apprenticeship Week.

We see BHRUT as a trust that really cares about its people, invests in its people, and recognises that for all of the improvements that we'll see in health and care services particularly in terms of technology, this will always be a people based service being able to recruit, develop and retain our staff is really important.

Welcome to our live blog

We’re excited to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) this week, with 5% of our workforce currently on an apprenticeship programme.

Over the past 12 months, we have had a total of 110 apprentices graduate to develop their careers within the Trust. More than 50 of them will be attending a BHRUT celebration event at the House of Commons later this afternoon to kickstart the week’s celebrations.

You can keep up to date with the event this afternoon on this live blog. Throughout the week, we will also be sharing inspiring stories from our apprentices, highlighting the impact they’re making and the opportunities apprenticeships provide. Stay tuned and join us in celebrating their success!
