How Beech Frailty Unit is helping elderly patients get the best care sooner
Following on from our update on Same Day Emergency Care last week, we’re now shining a spotlight on frailty.
We’ve implemented Frailty Units at both our hospitals to treat elderly patients who come in for emergency care. This helps them to bypass the Emergency Departments so they can be treated immediately by geriatricians in a better suited environment.
This also ensures we only admit the patients who need to be in a hospital bed, improving flow throughout our hospitals overall.
This week, we visited Beech Frailty Unit at King George Hospital to find out more about how the units are helping patients, such as Vera, have a better experience.
Watch this video starring Vera alongside Consultant Naila Sorathia, Matron Clementina Martins, and Deputy Matron Zabien Nathaniel.
The Frailty Units are one of many initiatives we are utilising to improve our four-hour performance.
Our new Chief Executive, Matthew Trainer, visited the unit last week. See what he had to say about it in his video diary reflecting on his first week at our Trust.
