Have PCOS and trying for a baby? Join the LOCI research trial.
The LOCI (Letrozole Or Clomifene for Ovulation Induction) Trial team are are looking for women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) who are trying to conceive to take part in their clinical trial.
LOCI is investigating the effectiveness of two different drugs (letrozole and clomifene), to see which is most effective on fertility, pregnancy and successful births. Both of these drugs aim to induce or ‘switch on’ ovulation, which is often disrupted in women with PCOS. Improved ovulation should increase the chances of becoming pregnant.
Women in the study will take part in up to 6 treatment cycles where letrozole or clomifene is taken with or without metformin. The results of the trial will provide important insights on which combination of drugs works best.
If you meet the below criteria, and would consider taking part, please discuss with your GP:
- Women diagnosed with PCOS (according to Rotterdam criteria)13 and evidence of anovulation (anovulation is defined as irregular cycles lasting < 21 or more than 35 days or less than 8 periods per year OR absence of raised serum progesterone greater than 20nmol/l 7 days prior to a period);
- Presentation with infertility or wishing to conceive;
- Male partner with normal sperm count (> = 15 million) and progressive motility (> = 32%) in the last 3 years;
- Willing and able to give informed consent.
By taking part in this trial you will be helping move science forwards and giving many women with PCOS a better chance of getting pregnant and giving birth in future.
The trial is open to women of all ethnicities and backgrounds.
