Gideon meets the King
One of our consultants Professor Gideon Mlawa was invited to a special reception at St James's Palace to honour the role international healthcare workers have in the NHS and across the world.
Gideon met King Charles (pictured) at an event before the Commonwealth Heads of State Meeting last month which His Majesty hosted.
A founding member of the Tanzania UK Healthcare Diaspora Association, Gideon has been a leading figure in collaborative partnership schemes with healthcare institutions in low-resource countries in Africa for the past eight years.
His work has allowed and inspired other international healthcare colleagues to give back to their countries of origin through working with healthcare workers and hospitals in medical research, medical education and clinical care.
He said: “It was a privilege and a real honour to meet His Majesty the King and celebrate the work we’ve done locally and internationally. It has motivated me even more to continue this rewarding line of work.
“I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support of my international and BHRUT colleagues especially Matthew Trainer, Kathryn Halford, Andrew Deaner and others.”
