Children’s ward Sister and her daughter have hair cut for charity

Jing and her daughter Maya holding their hair Jing Baldeo, a Sister on Tropical Lagoon children’s ward at Queen’s Hospital, and her seven-year-old daughter Maya have raised more than £650 for our charity by holding a sponsored haircut.

The mum and daughter took on the fundraising task together yesterday morning. Jing cut Maya’s hair while mum’s hair was cut by Lyn Clark, a Play Specialist on Tropical Lagoon ward.

The money raised is going to the King George & Queen’s Hospitals Charity and will be used to purchase play equipment for our young patients.

“I am very pleased because I only set out to raise £100 and it is very fulfilling to have collected so much more!

“I hope this money will go towards some equipment for a sensory room for our patients.”

Jing and Maya, from Rush Green, are also donating their hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

Maya said: “I’m going to miss my long hair but I’m happy because it’s going to help other children.”

Jing last had her hair cut seven years ago, donating 18 inches of hair to the Little Princess Trust on that occasion, and it was also Maya’s first haircut since she was a baby. While Jing was very impressed with Lyn’s skills with the scissors, she admitted they’ve booked to have it cut properly at a salon soon.

“But at least I know Lyn can cut it in the future to save me some money!” Jing laughed.
