Bedrock Radio’s most requested songs of 2020

Hospital radio station compiles the most requested songs and artists of 2020, as requested by patients across local hospitals.

Bedrock Radio, the Community Hospital Radio station broadcasting to patients of Queen’s (Romford), King George & Goodmayes (Ilford) Hospitals, plus the local community online has compiled a chart of most requested songs and artists made by patients.

Volunteers who regularly collect song requests have had a challenging year due to Covid-19. Because of this, teams have not been able to visit all the wards and departments they usually would. The areas they have visited have been done so in a Covid-19 safe way, with fantastic feedback from patients and staff alike.

However, due to changes in tiers and subsequent lockdowns, Bedrock Radio came up with new solutions, such as asking patients to submit requests and dedications via the Bedrock Radio App, using NHS WiFi in the hospitals.

Volunteer Chris Deighton, who compiles a weekly the chart, said: “It’s been a challenging year and has been difficult to make the yearly most requested, but we have still managed to produce something that reflects what patients have been asking us for.

“The Bedrock Radio Mobile App has been vital to patients who listen via NHS WiFi, but also allows patients get in touch with the studio, direct and for free via the built-in ‘Message the Studio’ feature.”

This Boxing Day, Bedrock Radio will broadcast its most requested chart, counting down the most requested songs as chosen by hospital patients.

In the 2020 listings are the likes of Abba, Ed Sheeran, Madonna and The Beatles. But who will be number one? Listen on Boxing Day (Saturday 26 December) from 6pm.

To listen to Bedrock Radio, download the Bedrock Radio App, ask a smart speaker to “Play Bedrock Radio” (Alexa / Google / Siri) or online at www.bedrockradio.org.uk.
