Permanent CEO appointed

We have today (Friday 9 July) announced the appointment of our new permanent Chief Executive Matthew Trainer.

Matthew is joining us from Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, where he has been CEO for the past three years. Please read the full statement on our website.

I will remain in post for the next few weeks to ensure a smooth handover and to say goodbye – in person, or virtually – to as many of you as possible.

In what has been an eighteen months like no other, I would like to thank you all for the support you have given me and the organisation in my time here.

I’ve been incredibly proud to lead this Trust through the pandemic and have seen first-hand the courage and resilience shown by my colleagues in such testing times.

Happy birthday to the NHS

We all deserve a happy birthday, and the NHS is no different!

On Monday, the NHS enjoyed its 73rd birthday and it provided the perfect opportunity to celebrate how we’ve kept our hospitals running, delivering the best possible care for our patients, while also supporting each other.

Many of our staff shared thank you videos, as did some of our local authority colleagues. Thank you to Redbridge’s Councillor Jas Athwal and Barking and Dagenham’s Councillor Darren Rodwell and Councillor Maureen Worby for their kind words.

There is a place for everyone in the NHS, no matter where you are in your career. Trainee nurse Shauna Neylon is testament to this. She joined us last year as part of a student summer volunteering programme. 12 months later, 18-year-old Shauna is on track to start her nurse training at King’s College this September.

Stories like this remind me just how lucky we are to have the NHS.

Football’s coming home…

Wow – what a Euros we have enjoyed so far! Wednesday’s semi-final victory against Denmark was incredible and now just one hurdle remains.

Well done to the England team for already giving us great memories this summer and good luck in the final.

I hope you have a good weekend.

Best wishes,

Tony Chambers
Chief Executive
