Stakeholder update from Chief Executive Matthew Trainer: 30 March 2022

Improving patient experience in our hospitals is not about treatment alone. We need to make sure our talented staff have the right tools to do the job, including having high quality buildings to work in.

With this in mind, I am delighted that we have officially opened our upgraded Emergency Department (ED) at King George Hospital (KGH), following a £5m investment.

At Friday’s opening, we welcomed local politicians for a tour of the state-of-the-art facility, which will ensure our sickest patients are treated in the best possible environment. We welcomed Sam Tarry, MP for Ilford South, Jas Athwal, Redbridge Council’s Leader and Mark Santos, Health and Wellbeing Board Chair.

I believe this is now one of the best designed EDs in London, with excellent facilities for adults and for children. King George Hospital has a bright future, and in the coming months we will also open our £4m expanded Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU).

Localised pregnancy app for north east London

While we continue to invest, improving our services isn’t something we can do alone. We must continue to work with our system partners to ensure communities receive the best possible treatment and resources.

That’s why it’s great news that expecting mothers across our boroughs can now get relevant local pregnancy information on their smart phone. North East London (NEL) Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has launched a localised version of the free Baby Buddy app, which includes Queen’s Hospital.

Working in partnership with Queen’s, The Royal London, Homerton, Whipps Cross and Newham hospitals, NEL is the first region in the capital to include localised content on the app which features helpful information from each of the maternity units.

Expectant parents can visit our website for more details and to find out how to download ‘Baby Buddy 2.0’.

Kind regards,

Matthew Trainer
Chief Executive
