Treasured memories appeal
Our Treasured Memories Appeal (formerly known as The Memory Box Appeal) was set up in 2006 by staff working in our cancer services after they realised that only a few of their cancer patients were admitted to a hospice.
We can only offer this service to our terminal cancer patients, but our goal is to provide the service to all patients with a life limiting illness being treated at King George and Queen's Hospitals.
Throughout the year we hold various fundraising events such as:
- cake stalls
- karaoke events
- at Christmas we run a sponsor a Christmas tree light event at both our hospitals, where for a donation of £3 your hand written dedication will appear on the Christmas tree in our hospitals’ main atrium. If you donate £5 or more, you will also receive a candle and certificate as a thank you for your support.
All donations to the Treasured Memories Appeal will go towards providing ongoing support to a bereaved child or young person by:
- buying memory boxes to hold items of remembrance
- buying books designed to help children understand death, and to encourage them to write about their feelings
- providing presents for future big events, such as special birthdays or their wedding day.
Other items we’ve bought with your donations
We have two laptops that allow family members in hospital and children at home to stay in touch if they are unable to visit, and a digital camera for families to use to create lasting, precious memories of their loved one.
