Jonathan Faulkner, a senior charge nurse at our Trust, has made it to the final 12 for the Mentor of the Year award.

Jonathan was shortlisted from hundreds of entries to the Student Nursing Times Awards 2018 thanks to his dedication to helping and supporting student nurses.

He said: “I am honoured and humbled that I have been nominated for this award. Mentoring is very close to my heart and I have always loved to teach and mentor students. I believe that the best way to respect and thank all those people who have guided and helped me in my career is to do the same for others.

“I’ve been a mentor for 20 years and I take great joy in bumping into nurses I have taught during their training who are now thriving in a multitude of roles in the NHS.”

Jonathan will find out if he’s been successful in bagging the award when he attends the ceremony on Thursday 26 April.

He was nominated by Mary O’Connell who is our Undergraduate Education Manager. Mary said she put Jonathan forward as student evaluation forms are usually quite general, but she noticed how students who had worked with Jonathan always went out of their way to name him.

She added: “The overall atmosphere he creates is positive, inspiring and encouraging, embracing students as valuable members of his team throughout their placement.”
