A Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) conference has been held to celebrate the achievements of staff across our hospitals.

Around 100 staff from both our hospitals, including healthcare assistants and student nurses, attended the event on Wednesday (29 June).

Awards, such as team of the year, were presented by Chie f Nurse Kathryn Halford.

Ruth May, Executive Director of Nursing from NHS Improvement, also came along to the event, held at Queen’s Hospital, and spoke about the future of nursing and key priorities.

Kathryn said: “It was fantastic to bring so many of our colleagues together for a day to celebrate their hard work and accomplishments over the past year.

“Our staff work so hard to provide the best care possible for our patients, so events like these to appreciate their own achievements are really important.”

An exhibition of posters designed by our staff on the theme, a force for improvement, was on display, and a patient also shared his experience.

The winners were:

Student nurse/midwife of the year – Lucy Caine

Healthcare, midwifery or therapy assistant of the year – Jadwiga Rataj

Nurse of the year – Beverly Thomas

Midwife of the year – Claire Homeyard and Maxine Vassell

AHP of the year – Paul Thorp

Team of the year – the high dependency unit’s critical care team
