Local hairdresser Jaye North, 31, is holding a black tie ball on Saturday 6 April to raise money for the King George and Queen’s Hospitals Charity.

The ball will take place at Orsett Hall and includes a three-course meal with wine and a DJ, as well as an auction and raffle to raise even more money for our charity, which will go towards our Oncology department.

Tickets cost £55, or £500 for a table of ten, and some are still up for grabs! If you’d like to go along and support a great cause, get in touch with Jaye on 07961 233721.

All money raised will help fund a new ultrasound machine for the Sunflower Suite at Queen’s Hospital, which would mean our cancer patients could have their PICC lines (for administering their chemotherapy drugs) inserted in a familiar setting by staff they know, rather than going to our Theatres department.

Jaye, of Willow Close, Hornchurch, is passionate about raising as much money as possible for our Oncology team as it’s where her mum, Julie Carthy, is being treated for breast cancer.

She’s already lent her hand to raising money for this machine by chopping the locks of Yagmur Kocak, a junior sister on the Sunflower Suite, where Yagmur raised £3,000.

Jaye said: “I wanted to do something to help so I thought of a charity ball. It’s the first time I’ve ever done anything like this so it was a bit daunting.

“We’ve already sold almost 200 tickets so it’s going really well and we’ve been fortunate that lots of local businesses have supported us by donating things. I’m really excited.”
