We’re marking World Hand Hygiene Day today (Friday 5 May) by encouraging our staff, patients and visitors to make their own pledge.

The annual worldwide event run by the World Hygiene Organization is a global call to action – Save Lives: Clean Your Hands.

It really is that simple, regular and thorough handwashing can prevent the spread of infection and save lives, which is especially important in our hospitals.

Our Infection Prevention and Control Team (IPCT) will be hosting information stalls at Queen’s Hospital from 9.30am to 2pm, and from 10am to 1pm at King George Hospital, in the main entrance areas.

Mini hand gels will be up for grabs and you can also find out what you can do to stop the spread of germs and infectious diseases. If you’re brave enough you can stick your hand into our glow box to check out your handwashing technique and see how clean they really are under the UV light.

Our senior leaders have led the way this week making their own pledges, signed in traced cut-outs of their own hands.

Find out more about how you can do you bit to help us prevent the spread of infection on our IPCT page.
