“I loved it – and I’d do it again!” That’s the verdict of our dedicated volunteer Charlie Richardson, 70, who jumped out of a plane to raise over £2,000 for the King George and Queen’s Hospitals Charity.

The grandfather-of-seven headed to Maidstone in Kent on Friday (19 October) to complete his first skydive.

Charlie wanted to raise money for our charity in thanks for the great care his wife Marian, 64, received at our hospital when she diagnosed with breast cancer.

His proud family went along to watch his skydive, which saw Charlie hit his £2,000 fundraising target, with money still coming in!

He said: “The weather was tremendous and although there’s a bit of waiting around beforehand, once you’re about to jump there’s no time to sit and think about – 12 of us jumped within 30 seconds!

“The biggest thing is the wait for the plane to reach the right height – that took around 15 to 20 minutes, so there is time to get nervous, but I had no problems! It was fantastic and I’m over the moon that I’ve exceeded my target.”

The money Charlie raised will go directly to our Volunteering team.

You can still tot up his total by donating on his JustGiving page.
