Bright and welcoming new bereavement centre opens at Queen’s Hospital

Families who have recently lost a loved one are now getting a better, more compassionate service at Queen’s Hospital.

The Daisy Centre was opened by Jeff Buggle, our acting Chief Executive. It has brought together registrars, bereavement officers and chaplains into a refurbished, bright and welcoming new centre.

Previously relatives needing to register the death of a loved one at our hospital had to go to separate areas to complete the necessary steps, which were not as welcoming as they could be, neither were they easy to find.

Bringing all aspects of the bereavement service together, including registrars from the local authority, has led to more joined up working, helping to support relatives at a difficult time.

Our new centre also has more space and privacy.

Ian James, Chairman of our Patient Partnership Council, said: “I am delighted that the daisy Centre has opened, providing a much more personal and compassionate service for people who have been bereaved.

“Bringing the entire bereavement team together makes it much better for the staff providing these important services, helping them to work more closely together. It also goes some way towards making a difficult process a bit more straightforward for families who have lost a loved one.”

The change follows responses to our bereavement questionnaire where people commented that there was not enough privacy and the previous services were difficult to find.
