A family from Romford have donated £500 to Queen’s Hospital to thank our staff who cared for their late mother.

Sisters Mandi Hewitt, 49, and Mikki Gould, 42, along with their stepfather John O’Dwyer, 57, visited the hospital to hand a cheque to Matron Fiona Kenton.

The donation, which was made to our charity, will go towards improving patient care on Mandarin B ward, where Maureen, 72, who died of breast cancer, was cared for.

The family, including brother Marc, 46, raised almost £10,000 by hosting a charity night and have made donations to breast cancer charities and other local causes.

Mandi, of Park End Road, said: “Mum first had breast cancer in 1995 and we’ve been fundraising since then. This latest one was for her. She was very ill when it was held but she said we still had to do it. She was so proud of us all.

“We wanted to give a donation to the hospital as the care she got here was second to none.”

Fundraising in her name has also been taken on by Maureen’s granddaughters, Mia, 17, who completed a three peaks challenge and Ella, 21, who has run two marathons.
