Our Cardiology service consists of a high performing cardiac centre, led by consultant cardiologists, clinical nurse specialists and cardiac physiologists who are passionate about delivering a high standard of care.

We offer outpatient and inpatient tests, treatment, management and rehabilitation at both Queen’s Hospital in Romford and King George Hospital in Goodmayes. 

The services we provide are:

Diagnostic non-invasive investigations:

  • Echocardiography (ECG)
  • 24 hour and 7 day holter
  • Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
  • Stress echo and bubble echo
  • Transoesophageal ECG
  • Cardiac CT
  • Nuclear medicine

General and sub-specialty clinics: 

  • Daily general cardiology outpatient clinics
  • Rapid access chest pain clinics
  • Rapid access heart failure diagnostic clinics
  • Ambulatory hot cardiology clinic
  • Nurse led heart failure optimisation clinics
  • Consultant and nurse led arrhythmia clinic
  • Joint cardiology obstetric clinic for pregnant women with heart disease at Queen's Hospital
  • Pacemaker clinic

Cardiac catheter laboratory

This takes place at King George Hospital. The laboratory undertakes:

  • Diagnostic coronary angiography
  • Loop recorder implants
  • Pacemaker implantation
  • Generator changes
  • Complex device implantation
  • Transoesophageal echo

Nurse led direct current (DC) cardioversion

DC Cardioversion is a service to attempt to correct an irregular heart rhythm in selected patients under a Consultant Cardiologist. This takes place at Queen's Hospital

Cardiac rehabilitation

This is for patients who have suffered a heart attack. This takes place in our hospitals, as well as in local gym facilities.

Virtual multi-disciplinary team meetings

These meetings are designed to support community heart failure teams, primary care atrial fibrillation management, joint anaesthetic cardiology pre-assessment and joint cardiology stroke. The aim is to give advice on patients being treated at home to avoid admission to hospital.
